General Surgery

Whitmire Animal Hospital offers a wide variety of general surgeries in house. Scheduled surgeries are performed Monday through Friday. Routine surgeries are commonly recommended when your pet’s examination reveals medical problems correctable by surgery. Our doctors are highly trained to perform.

  • Sterilization surgeries (spay/neuter)
  • Stomach tacking
  • Mass removal
  • Wound and trauma repair
  • Abdominal surgery
  • Eye surgery
  • Limb and digit surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery

When coming in for a scheduled surgery, we require that your pet be admitted the morning of surgery after being fasted the night before, no food or water after midnight. All clients will be required to fill out a surgery release form, which can be done ahead and brought with you to save time.

Wellness and Preventative Services

Wellness exams give us a chance to evaluate the overall health of your pet while also giving us a baseline for their own unique bodies and tendencies. They also allow us to detect potential problems before they become serious, and even make your pet more familiar with our veterinary hospital, making future visits easier on them and you. Preventative health care is essential to ensure that your dog or cat has a full, healthy life.

Our Wellness Care services include:

  • Comprehensive physical examinations
  • Puppy / kitten vaccination series
  • Adult dog / cat vaccination
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Senior pet healthcare and diagnostics
  • Preventative for heartworms, fleas, and other parasites

Dentistry

When it comes to your pet’s oral health, preventative care is key. By taking the time today to keep your pet’s teeth clean, you can protect them and help them avoid more serious problems later on down the road.

At Whitmire Animal Hospital, we offer routine dental checkups for dogs and cats. Our doctors perform comprehensive exams to ensure your pet’s tooth and gum health. We can thoroughly clean their teeth and discuss any potential problems encountered. We can also provide you with helpful tips and tricks to continue maintaining your pet’s dental health at home.

Diagnostics and Labs

Our veterinary laboratory technology provides diagnostic results quickly and efficiently, ensuring timely results for treatments.

  • Specialized test
  • Stool and urine samples
  • Serum chemistry
  • Complete blood count
  • Heartworm and tick-borne disease screening
  • FeLV/FIV screening
  • Cytology

Radiographs (x-rays) are usually the first test administered to evaluate your pet. Our office utilizes digital x-rays because they are more accurate and display a higher contrast. Because of their accuracy, technicians are able to take fewer images resulting in less pet discomfort. Digital x-rays also project less radiation than traditional x-rays, which allows your pet to avoid unnecessary exposure.

Ultrasounds are another form of 3D imaging. This diagnostic is perfect for pets in sensitive situations (e.g. pregnancy), pets that might be suffering immense pain, or pets who are partially immobile. Ultrasounds are very gentle and are typically used to examine the abdominal region.

Coming soon: Digital dental x-rays help to find problems with your pets’ teeth.
